This No-Bake Cake Starring Summer’s Favorite Ingredient Is ‘Heaven on Earth’

I love to bake when I am home for the summer. Whether it is M&M cookies or a Victoria sponge cake, I am happy. But, with all of that baking, I can’t eat it all myself! Luckily, I have my dad who is my taste tester for all of my latest creations, whether it is a success or a flop. 

While my dad is always up for a sweet treat, he specifically loves cherry desserts. From fruit cake to cherry ice cream and cherry cobbler, he will be the first to try the dish. That is why I am so excited to make the Heaven on Earth cake this summer— because one of the star ingredients is, you guessed it, cherries! 

But, what exactly is a “Heaven on Earth” cake? 

Heaven in a Cake

A Heaven on Earth cake is an easy no-bake dessert that simply needs to be assembled and chilled before it can be enjoyed on a warm summer day. The main ingredients of the dish are angel food cake, cherry pie filling, a vanilla pudding mixture, and, of course, whipped topping. The simple assembly and combination of ingredients makes a light and decadent dessert, truly like heaven on earth.

How to Make Heaven on Earth Cake

  1. Cut cake into cubes. To make this delectable cake, start by cutting up a store bought angel food cake into large cubes.
  2. Create layers of cake and cherry filling. Place half of the cake in a baking dish and reserve the rest.Distribute part of the cherry filling (about 1 cup) on top of the cake in the dish so the cake is evenly covered. Then, add the remainder of the cake to the dish. 
  3. Make pudding mixture.After the cake and cherry pie filling are assembled, mix together the ingredients for the pudding mixture which consists of instant vanilla pudding, sour cream and milk. (It is important to mix the ingredients together for around a minute as you want the pudding mixture to thicken slightly.) Once this is complete, pour the mixture on top of the cake and evenly spread it out over the cake and cherry filling. 
  4. Add whipped topping. Finally, spread a layer of the whipped topping and create your own design on top with the remaining cherry pie filling and sliced almonds. Once the cake is complete, chill and enjoy!
