PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department’s recent audit uncovered billions of rupees in financial irregularities in the Sehat Insaf Card program from 2018 to 2021.
The audit found discrepancies totaling about Rs 2.861 billion in the health card scheme and related projects. The report shows that private hospitals were added to the health facility card panel without proper justification.
Several unregistered hospitals received billions in payments. Out of 48 hospitals in 10 districts, 17 were not registered in the panel but still received funds.
Two unregistered private hospitals in Swat received over Rs 100 million each. Excessive hiring in 32 DHQ hospitals caused a loss of Rs 824 million to the treasury.
The report also says the Health Department and NADRA failed to launch the Central Management Information System (CMIS) by the March 1, 2022 deadline. This system was meant to streamline the program.
Finally, the audit found that patient data for the Sehat Insaf Card program is incomplete and unavailable. The report calls for urgent financial transparency and administrative reforms to ensure proper use of public funds.
