Authentic Neapolitan Pizza

Learn how to make traditional Neapolitan pizza at home with this authentic recipe. Crispy, airy crust and rich tomato flavor, just like in Naples!

Ingredients (Makes 2 pizzas)

For the Dough:

  1. Tipo “00” flour or all purpose flour – 250 gm
  2. Cold water – 185 ml
  3. Salt – 6 mg
  4. Instant yeast- 2 gm
  5. For the Topping:
  6. Pizza sauce
  7. Mozzarella Cheese
  8. Fresh basil leaves
  9. Extra virgin olive oil

Instructions to make the Dough:

  • Dissolve the salt in water.
  • Add flour and yeast, mixing by hand or with a mixer until a rough dough forms.
  • Let rest 30 minutes at room temp, covered.
  • After 30 minutes, stretch the dough, cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, transfer the dough on the shelf and stretch again. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes, divide into 2 dough balls, place in containers, and let rest 2 hours.

Stretch and Top the Pizza:

  • Preheat your oven to the highest setting (ideally 500°F/260°C) or use a pizza oven (400–450°C / 750–850°F).
  • Stretch dough into a 10-12” round. Don’t use a rolling pin!
  • Spread a few spoonful of tomato sauce, tear mozzarella over it, add basil, and drizzle olive oil.
  • In a home oven with pizza stone/steel: 6–8 minutes
  • In a wood-fired/pizza oven: 90 seconds

Tips:

Use a pizza stone or steel preheated for 45–60 minutes for best results.
