This taste combo (cream cheese and guava paste) is one I just lately found in Mexico. I used to be there only a few weeks in the past for Spring break, and tried it as soon as at my favourite coffee chain there. It was the stuffing in a roll (can’t bear in mind what sort of roll). Fabulous! The combo of the marginally tart creamy cheese with the candy fruity berry tasting guava paste was to-die-for! The guava paste jogged my memory of the quince jelly we make in Lebanon. Come to think about it, why can we not consider this combo? (say with areeshe cheese or Labneh??).

Anyway, musings apart, I made a decision to attempt to recreate this particularly since I needed to contribute pastries to a fundraiser to assist the earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey.

I used puff pastry I purchased, the highest quality I may get my palms on, and I additionally used ready-made empanada circles with a puff pastry within the freezer part of my favourite Latino market. The clear winner (taste-wise) is the French-style puff pastry. The empanada dough package deal makes it tremendous straightforward as a result of the dough is precut and you may fill it in a snap. However, it isn’t as delicate in texture and flaky because the puff pastry.

I’m discovering out it is a very fashionable dessert in Brazil in addition to different Latin and  Caribbean nations comparable to Cuba, Panama, the place it’s known as Guava truffles or guava.
