A rape allegation led to the arrest of 24-year-old Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the incident took place on July 23, 2025, at a premises in the city.

Haider was taken into custody on August 7, 2025, after a complaint was filed.

He was later released on bail as the investigation continues.

The alleged victim is being supported by officers.

The alleged assault reportedly occurred during Pakistan Shaheens’ ongoing tour of England, where Haider was representing the A team.

Soon after news of the arrest surfaced, the Pakistan Cricket Board suspended Haider from all cricketing activities with immediate effect.

The board said in its official statement:

“The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course.”

Haider’s provisional suspension will remain in place until there is clarity on the legal outcome of the case.

Born in Attock, Haider Ali rose to fame quickly, earning praise for his aggressive batting style and solid technique.

He made his T20I debut for Pakistan in the UK in 2020 and played his first ODI against Zimbabwe later that year.

Regarded as a bright prospect, his career had seen a promising start, including 35 T20Is and two ODIs for Pakistan.

He also played regularly in the Pakistan Super League and represented various T20 franchises globally.

Before entering cricket, Haider was known to have sold fruit in his hometown, making his story one of grit and persistence.

However, this is not the first time Haider’s conduct off the field has drawn criticism.

During a previous edition of the Pakistan Super League, he was suspended for breaching Covid-19 safety protocols.

That incident had raised concerns about his discipline, which have now been further compounded by the latest allegations.

As of now, police in Manchester are continuing their inquiries, while media attention remains focused on how the case will unfold.

There has been no official statement from Haider Ali or his legal team.

With the case still under investigation, both the cricketing community and fans await further updates.

The development has cast a shadow over the Pakistan Shaheens’ tour and many are calling it a “new low” for Pakistani cricket.

Until a legal resolution is reached, Haider Ali’s future in cricket remains uncertain.
