Butter is one of the very few ingredients that can be found in almost every single person’s kitchen. Now, whether you store your butter in the fridge or on the counter is a different story, but the important thing is that it’s there.

From a piece of buttered toast to your favorite baked goods and rich, savory dishes, butter is a staple. And because butter is key to making so many recipes taste extra-delicious, it’s important to choose the right one.

There seem to be a few camps when it comes to celebrities’ and celebrity chefs’ favorite butter. While most, including Bobby Flay and Stanley Tucci, fall into the Kerrygold lover category, our Hamptons-dwelling queens, Ina Garten and Martha Stewart, tend to champion East Coast brands.

Stewart is a Vermont Creamery fan, while Garten opts for the other Vermont-based brand, Cabot Creamery. While Garten’s choice may have surprised us when we first learned of it, Cabot has proved time and again that it’s a world-class butter. In 2024, one of its butters was named Best of Class on the world stage—and, now, two of Cabot’s butters were named the best in the country.

Cabot Creamery’s Extra Creamy Premium Butter, both the salted and unsalted, were recently crowned first place in their respective categories at the 2025 American Cheese Society Awards.

The Extra Creamy Premium Butter is Cabot’s “European-style” butter, meaning that (similar to Kerrygold) it has a higher butterfat content than traditional American butters. American butters only require an 80 percent butterfat content, while the European standard requires at least 82 percent.

Both of Cabot’s Extra Creamy butters contain 83 percent butterfat content, which is what gives them their extra-rich taste and softer, creamy texture. The higher fat content makes this butter perfect for baking pastries and using for more butter-forward dishes—however, it’s just as delicious when used in everyday staples, from toast to roasted veggies.

Cabot’s Extra Creamy Sea Salted Butter and Extra Creamy Unsalted Butter are available at retailers in eight-ounce sticks. However, if you’re looking for more of a run-of-the-mill butter, you can opt for either of the American Cheese Society Awards’ runners-up in the salted and unsalted butter categories, Cabot’s Salted Butter and Unsalted Butter. The Sweet Cream Butter and Unsalted Butter are sold at retailers nationwide.

Cabot didn’t just dominate the butter category at the 2025 American Cheese Society Awards, either. It took home first place for its Creme Fraiche, Pepper Jack cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, and Muenster cheese. The brand also placed second for its French Onion Dip and third for its Private Stock Cheddar, 10% Vanilla Greek Yogurt, Smoky Bacon Cheddar, Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese Spread, and Colby Jack.

So, no matter which of Cabot’s products you’re buying, it’s safe to say they’ll be award-winning quality.
