France revered his kitchen stars and the good and above all the upscale cuisine. I don’t want to say that it is not the case in Germany, but we all know that food in France is much more important. Food defines the soul of the whole country. The Streetfood Festival in Lyonwhich is the 10th time this year, inspires with an incredible line-up: 130 Chefs and Patronage are at the start. There are more than the days 60 concerts And performances and of course it begins just as you can expect from the largest festival of this kind in France: with a glass of champagne! This can also be done at over 33 °. In addition, an Arancini filled with a cheese truffle cream.
Snections of the brilliant opening day and why this festival offers so much more than the Street Food Festival with us.
What is there to eat?
In short: everything you love – and in really creative. I feasted through Arancini with truffle cheese cream, tried a perfectly filled raviolo and dipped mimolette sticks with black and white sauce. Then there was a creamy onsen egg with fresh herbs, sharp sausages with grilled peppers, a tuna tataki and a croque monsieur, refined with plenty of truffle. At the start a glass of ice-cold champagne followed by refreshing mint-soda and a craft beer. Particularly seductive: small dough bags, artistically decorated with flowers that reveal a spicy, wonderfully aromatic filling during the first bite. And all of this in the middle of the hustle and bustle between food stands, live music and the fragrance after freshly grilled. And then of course there is a whole temple for the sweet delicacies. Even stars like Ann-Sophie Pic have already cooked here, and this year too are cooks with several Michelin stars at the start. It is simply overwhelming what is offered here. Anyone who only thinks of Burger and Tacos at Streetfood expects a culinary universe in a different dimension here. It is also special that many of the dishes are offered vegetarian or vegan.
How is the mood?
Friendly, relaxed and with a lot of curiosity with all visitors. One might think that half of the country spends their free time looking for cooking shows, so the winners who are also represented are revered. Even on the sometimes long snakes in front of some stands there is no pushing and you talk to each other. Here everyone came to chill and enjoy. With friends, in pairs or you even reserved a place with a menu in advance.
How expensive is this here and how does it work with the payment?
The whole event works cashless. Admission is free. When you enter, you acquire a payment card that can be charged again and again by QR code. The dishes all cost between 6.00 and 10.00 euros. Regardless of whether you get soft drinks, champagne, beer or wine, that is also billed via the card. This is efficient and avoids longer traffic jams at the individual stands.
A whole temple for the sweet tooth
Eclairs, nougat, extraordinary ice cream creations-if you always wanted to indulge in sugar dreams, you have found your paradise here. Of course, well -known patissiers are also at the start and I wish I could have tried more. I couldn’t. The most wonderful little Petit Fours passed me, I looked at the little tarts longing but nothing worked. I would definitely need a week alone to pay attention to everyone. A little ECLAIR maybe….
Why a day is far from sufficient
The area of the Great crazy peoplea former locomotive shed, is huge. There are several halls and a large expression with several stages. Everywhere, outside and inside (just nobody wants to sit inside because it is so hot), tables and benches are set up. Everyone will find an appealing seat (there are enough deckchairs). And especially now, when the sun goes down late at this time of year and cozy lights are dressed everywhere, the mood is particularly great. The offer is huge. In addition to the grandiose French cuisine, there are also two host countries, in this year it was Brazil and Ireland With stands and of course renowned chefs at the start. Anyone who has always wanted to know how Streetfood from Rio de Janeiro tastes not to be disappointed. But then you may escape the BBQ or the fried mimolette chopsticks (mimolette is a cheese) with a black garlic sauce and smoked over hay (grandiose) or maybe the filled giant ravioli. It is simply impossible to try everything. Even with the very best resolutions. You arrive hungry, at best find the first totally cool and maybe want it again (mistake – this place is missing for something else) and at some point you are only happy to sit and enjoy a cold beer. If Lyon, especially the gastronomy, would not offer a lot of variety anyway, I would advise everyone here for a second evening.
