Margarita Pops are tart, citrusy ice pops inspired by the a classic Margarita cocktail. The pops feature some of the classic Margarita ingredients like tequila and lime juice, with a few additions. Garnish the pops with a sprinkle of salt for a touch of Margarita flair.

This recipe takes the joys of a frozen, blended Margarita to the next level, making them into a portable, hand-held frozen treat perfect for poolside hangs or summer happy hours. Margarita Pops have balanced sweet, tangy, and fruity notes while still offering real tequila flavor.

To turn a classic Margarita into a frozen treat, the overall ABV (alcohol by volume) of the cocktail has to be lowered. To do this, this recipe swaps orange liqueur for fresh orange juice, and calls for additional water as well. Simple syrup is used to add back the sweetness that orange liqueur typically provides.

Tips for making Margarita Pops

While Margarita Pops have a lower ABV than a traditional Margarita, the tequila flavor really shines through in this recipe. Because of this, be sure to use a high-quality tequila made from 100% agave. For this recipe, un-aged tequila like blanco works best.

For best results, use well-chilled ingredients when making the Margarita Pop mix. This will cut down on freezing time. Straining any pulp out of the lime juice and orange juice will also help maintain a smooth consistency in the mix and yield a more study pop.

Due to the alcohol, these pops will freeze to an icy consistency that is easy to bite through. For the best results, freeze for at least 12 hours before enjoying.
