Key Takeaways

  • McDonald’s is adding five new drinks to its menu, including several Starbucks copycats.
  • Some of the drinks originated on the CosMc’s menu, the McDonald’s offshoot that was officially shut down in June.

Let’s face it, sometimes fast food just hits the spot. Whether you’re looking for a convenient meal to end a busy day or something quick to enjoy on the go, you can’t go wrong with a trip to the drive-thru. From Taco Bell to Pizza Hut, there’s something for every palate.

In the world of fast food, there are few bigger players than McDonald’s. The chain remains a go-to spot for perfectly salted fries, juicy Big Macs, and the beloved Happy Meals. And if you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, you might even be able to snag a McFlurry—that is, as long as the ice cream machine isn’t broken.

Ever since McDonald’s brought back its popular Snack Wraps after a nine-year-long hiatus, nearly every other chain has taken aim at the Golden Arches—from Popeyes to Sonic. But now, it’s McDonald’s that’s giving another fast food giant some serious competition.

McDonald’s Is Coming for Starbucks With 5 New Drinks

You might already be familiar with CosMc’s, the McDonald’s spin-off restaurant that debuted in 2023 and was centered around specialty drinks. Earlier this summer, it was announced that all five CosMc’s locations would be closing, although some of the popular beverages would be sticking around at McDonald’s main restaurants. Finally, we have a sneak peek at those drinks ahead of their debut in September.

McDonald’s is adding five new drinks to its menu in total, and they might just convince you to skip your next Starbucks run.

Your daily coffee fix is covered, thanks to the Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew and Toasted Vanilla Frappé. The Strawberry Watermelon Refresher and Popping Tropic Refresher also lean into the Starbucks vibes, hinting at a copycat of our favorite fruity drinks. The Vanilla Cold Brew and Strawberry Watermelon Refresher were previously offered at CosMc’s, while the other two drinks appear to be new offerings.

If bubbly beverages are more your style, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the Sprite Lunar Splash, which features the classic lemon-lime soda. It’s unclear if the Sprite Lunar Splash is the same as the CosMc’s Sprite Moonsplash, which was Sprite with added citrus and sweet vanilla flavors, garnished with dried blueberries and a lemon wheel.

It’s worth noting that this is just an early preview of the new items joining the McDonald’s menu. The drinks are slated to debut on September 2, so you won’t have to wait too long to give them a try. In the meantime, you can always order a crispy Diet Coke to keep your thirst quenched.
