A Pakistani police officer has been arrested after a video showing him assaulting a woman went viral.

The officer, identified as ASI Ijaz, was taken into custody after the footage sparked widespread outrage on social media.

In the video, the ASI is seen slapping and kicking a woman inside her own home.

The violent episode prompted swift action from District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Iqbal.

Addressing the press, DPO Javed Iqbal confirmed that the accused officer was arrested and assured that justice would be delivered without delay.

He stressed that law enforcement officials who abuse their authority would not be tolerated in the police force.

According to preliminary reports, ASI Ijaz, who was posted at Farid Kot Chowki, visited the woman’s residence to pressure her into vacating it.

The DPO condemned the attack and made it clear that no one is above the law, regardless of their rank or position.

He also noted that the action was in line with directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

She has emphasised protecting women’s rights and ensuring swift justice.

The DPO stated firmly: “We will ensure the culprit faces the consequences of his actions and continue to root out such black sheep from the police force.”

In her own statement, the victim, a mother of two, recounted the ordeal and alleged that the officer’s assault was brutal and unprovoked.

She said that despite the presence of a female police officer, ASI Ijaz continued to physically attack her inside her home.

The woman further claimed that he threatened her against reporting the incident or undergoing a medical examination.

The officer threatened her that he could fabricate charges against her.

According to her account, the intimidation did not stop there.

She alleged that the ASI also threatened her while in court, in front of a sitting judge.

The incident has ignited debate over police accountability in Pakistan, particularly concerning the misuse of authority against vulnerable citizens.

Rights activists have pointed out that such cases highlight the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to protect victims.

As the investigation continues, the Pakistani police authorities have promised that the matter will be handled transparently.

The public, meanwhile, remains vocal online, calling for a thorough probe and demanding that the case set a precedent against such abuse.
