Ingredients

  • 4-5 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • ¾ cup gram flour (besan)
  • 2 tablespoons refined flour (maida)
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Tomato ketchup to serve 
  • Tea to serve

Method

  1. Take onions in a large bowl, add salt and sugar, crush with your fingers and mix lightly. Add green chillies and mix. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Add gram flour, refined flour, rice flour and turmeric powder and mix well.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Gently slide in small portions of the mixture into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  4. Arrange on a serving plate and serve hot with tomato ketchup and cups of hot tea.
