Summer snacking has truly reached its peak this year, with more chip varieties than we’ve ever collected in one season. At first, we thought the return of Trader Joe’s Patio Chips was as good as it could get—but then came Lay’s Bacon Grilled Cheese Chips, a surprise hit from Jail Breaker Chips, and the comeback of Spicy Guacamole Pringles. Topped off with Utz’s Lemonade-Flavored Potato Chips, and we figured our summer chip stash was totally covered.
But in the eleventh hour of the season, Pringles is jumping back in with one last snack surprise—one that promises to bring the heat even as temperatures cool.
Pringles Drops a New Ghost Pepper Ranch Flavor
A new Pringles flavor has been spotted on shelves, and it’s about to shake up the snack aisle: Ghost Pepper Ranch. That’s right—ghost pepperone of the hottest chilies on the planet, is now coming to a chip can near you.
We’ve seen plenty of bold brands test ghost pepper over the years. It’s popped up in fast food drive-thrus at Burger King and Carl’s Jr., and even made its way into grocery staples like Rotel Tomatoes and Chicken of the Sea tuna. And now, we get to see how Pringles turns that fiery heat into snackable form.
But here’s where things get a little confusing. Despite the name, the Pringles can is labeled as “medium heat,” marked with just two out of four hot pepper symbols. And if you’re a true spice fan, you know “Ghost Pepper” and “medium heat” don’t typically belong on the same packaging.
Maybe the creamy ranch flavor is cutting through the heat. Or maybe the “Ghost Pepper” label is doing a little extra marketing work. Either way, it’s thrown some snackers off—and a few are clearly not thrilled. “How are the ghost pepper pringles MEDIUM HEAT?” one commenter asked. Another added, “‘Medium’ and it’s labeled ghost pepper??? I need it HOTTTTT.”
Still, not everyone is bothered. “Oh ya, I’ll take a case,” one fan wrote. Another chimed in, “Pringles has been killin’ it lately.” And honestly, we’re intrigued. Whether you eat them straight from the can or use them to add some heat and crunch to your next summer sandwich, this flavor has real snack potential.
So far, Ghost Pepper Ranch Pringles have been spotted at Kroger and Kroger-affiliated stores, which might mean they’re exclusive to the chain—at least for now. Several big snack launches this summer have followed a similar path, so we’re keeping an eye out for broader distribution.
Either way, if you thought your summer snack stash was complete, you might want to make room for one more can. This is one flavor that was never meant to fly under the radar.
