The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for Schnucks pork- and beef-filled frozen tortellini. The frozen pasta was labeled as Tortellini Pork & Beef, but the package may actually contain frozen pork-and-beef toasted ravioli. The toasted ravioli product includes soy and sesame, but the label does not declare an allergen warning for those ingredients, which FSIS requires.
How To Identify the Recalled Frozen Tortellini
The impacted tortellini was sold at Schnucks stores in four states: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin. To identify if you have the tortellini package that may contain ravioli, you can look for the following information:
- 16-ounce bag of Schnucks Tortellini Pork & Beef with best-by date of May 27, 2026, and establishment number “EST. 13051” in the USDA mark of inspection
You can find label images on the USDA’s site to help identify the product.
FSIS initiated the health alert after Schnucks received a consumer complaint of finding ravioli in the tortellini bag. A recall was not issued, however, because the product is no longer available for purchase. At this time, FSIS has not received any reports of allergic reactions or adverse affects caused by eating the pasta.
What To Do If You Have the Schnucks Tortellini
If you have the Schnucks tortellini in your freezer, and also have a soy or sesame allergy or sensitivity, you should not consume it. Consuming the ravioli could result in serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. Instead, throw it away or return it to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
If you do not have a soy or sesame allergy or sensitivity, you don’t have to do anything regarding this alert. FSIS issued the health alert to notify those with allergies that the product has undisclosed ingredients and the package is mislabeled. Therefore, the pasta isn’t inherently unsafe to eat.
However, if you do have the tortellini package that contains toasted ravioli and would like the tortellini you intended to purchase, you are entitled to a refund or replacement.
