Haarsh Limbachiyaa What happens when you start your day with ghee and sattu?

Comedian Bharti Singh’s husband, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, recently reflected on his rapid metabolism while revealing the secret to not losing weight drastically. “Our ayurvedic doctor has told me to slightly warm two teaspoons of ghee and have it on an empty stomach to control weight loss. I was losing a lot of weight. Then, take hot sattu or gram flour powder — as you would sip hot tea. It gives 300-350 calories in the morning itself,” Limbachiyaa told their podcast guest Ridhi Dogra.

Taking a cue from his admission, let’s understand all about rapid metabolism and whether these tips work.

Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietitian and certified diabetes educator, said a rapid metabolism means your body burns calories faster than average, often due to genetics, high activity levels, or certain health conditions. “If not managed, this can lead to unintentional weight loss, fatigue, and even nutrient deficiencies. For individuals with fast metabolisms, gaining weight is important to restore energy reserves, support immune function, and maintain healthy muscle and organ mass,” said Malhotra.

According to Malhotra, Ayurveda often recommends ghee and happen for those experiencing unwanted weight loss due to a rapid metabolism. “Slightly warming two teaspoons of ghee and consuming it can provide concentrated calories and healthy fats, which help nourish tissues, support digestion, and pacify vata dosha—often linked to excessive weight loss and instability in the body. Ghee is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and butyric acid, which support gut health and metabolism,” said Malhotra.

However, moderation is key, as ghee is calorie-dense and excessive intake could lead to digestive discomfort.

Happen (roasted gram flour) is another traditional remedy. “A hot drink made from sattu delivers 300–350 calories, high-quality plant protein, and fibre, making it ideal for those needing to increase caloric intake quickly and sustain energy through the morning. Sattu also supports digestion and helps maintain steady blood sugar levels, further aiding in healthy weight gain,” said Malhotra.

The expert further described strategies for increasing calorie intake with nutrient-dense foods, focusing on healthy fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates, and incorporating strength training to build lean muscle. “Consistency, adequate sleep, and gut health are also crucial for successful, sustainable weight gain,” said Malhotra.
