Ghee coffeealso known as bulletproof coffee, has gained popularity in recent years as part of various diet trends, particularly among those following ketogenic or low-carb lifestyles.
Combining coffee with ghee (clarified butter) is believed to provide sustained energy, support weight loss, and enhance mental clarity. But what happens to your body if you drink ghee coffee every day for three months?
While many people claim benefits from this morning ritual, it’s essential to understand the long-term effects of regularly consuming ghee coffee.
Potential health benefits of drinking ghee coffee daily for three months
Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietician and diabetes educator, explains, “Ghee is full of important fatty acids, like conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which has been connected to a number of health advantages like decreased body fat and weight control. Butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid found in ghee, is another ingredient that helps support gut health and facilitate digestion.”
She adds, “Although there may be health benefits to ghee coffee, it is important to select high-quality ghee that is produced from cows that are fed grass. It’s also critical to pay attention to your body and modify your intake as necessary. A balanced diet, consistent exercise, and an all-around healthy lifestyle are still essential for optimum health.”
Negative effects of this practice
Malhotra warns, “Ghee has a lot of calories even though it contains a lot of good fats. Overindulgence may result in weight gain because the body may turn extra calories into fat. Obesity and associated conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke may be exacerbated by this.”
Even though ghee includes beneficial fats, such as saturated fats, consuming too much of it can still raise cholesterol. Elevated cholesterol levels have been linked to the development of plaque in the arteriesmaking them a risk factor for heart disease.

“It’s important to note that individual responses to ghee coffee can vary depending on factors such as overall diet, health status, and genetics. Some individuals may be more sensitive to the effects of ghee than others,” notes Malhotra.

How does the combination of caffeine and fat from ghee affect metabolism and energy levels?
Malhotra explains, “Caffeine and ghee work synergistically in coffee to boost energy and metabolism. Caffeine, a stimulant, boosts energy, attention, and alertness. Ghee’s beneficial fats can act as a long-term energy source.”
She outlines the potential benefits:
- Increase energy levels. While the ghee helps preserve energy levels over time, the caffeine gives an instant energy boost.
- Boost your ability to concentrate and focus. The stimulant properties of caffeine can improve cognitive performance.
- Encourage metabolism. Caffeine and good fats work together to speed up metabolism and aid with weight control.
Who should avoid drinking ghee coffee daily?
Malhotra advises that certain groups should avoid regular ghee coffee consumption:
- Individuals with high cholesterol.
- People with digestive issues.
- Those with weight management concerns.
- Individuals with certain medical conditions.
She concludes, “It’s important to listen to your body and adjust your intake. Remember, moderation is key. While ghee coffee can offer potential health benefits, it’s not a magic bullet.”
